<p>The event <strong>‘Fiberglass solutions for the integrated water cycle’</strong>, held on 18 June, attracted significant interest. It was a valuable opportunity for technical discussion and training promoted by <strong>T4T – Together For Tomorrow</strong> and hosted by <strong>EnAIP FVG</strong> at its headquarters in Pasian di Prato (UD). </p>

<p>The training session was aimed at professionals and companies operating in the water, environmental and infrastructure engineering sectors, dedicated to the applications of <strong>FRP</strong> <strong>(Fiberglass Reinforced Polymers)</strong> as a strategic material for innovative and long-lasting infrastructure.</p>

<p>The event emphasized the <strong>strategic role of FRP</strong> in the integrated water cycle: a lightweight, corrosion-resistant material with high mechanical performance, ideal for meeting the challenges of the water sector. The discussion focused on topics such as <strong>design and safety regulations </strong>(CE marking, Eurocode), the <strong>technical advantages </strong>of FRP pipes, gratings and manhole covers, and <strong>case studies </strong>of restoration and application by partner companies in the T4T network. </p>

<p>Following the opening remarks by<strong> Dr. Paola Stuparich</strong>, Director General of EnAIP FVG, a high-profile technical round table discussion began with the participation of <strong>Eng. Emanuel Morandini</strong>, CEO of M.M. srl, <strong>Eng. Carlo Zingoni</strong>, PRFV piping specialist, <strong>Roberto Peresson</strong>, technician at M.M. srl, and <strong>Fabio Ortolan</strong>, CEO of Carbon Compositi srl. The speakers provided practical insights into the potential and best practices in the use of fiberglass for the water sector, highlighting the technical and economic advantages of T4T solutions. </p>

<p>At the end of the event, participants visited an EnAIP FVG laboratory, where they were able to see and handle <strong>FRP samples of pipes, flanges, tanks, manhole covers, and structures </strong>showcased by the partner companies.</p>

<p>One of the strengths of FRP structures &#8211; such as walkways, handrails, stairs and platforms &#8211; is <strong>their high workability directly on-site</strong>. This makes them a practical and advantageous solution compared to traditional materials such as iron, steel or wood.</p>



<p>Generally pre-assembled in the factory, these structures <strong>can be easily adapted during installation</strong> thanks to the possibility of cutting, drilling and modifications without the use of complex equipment and without generating sparks, unlike metals.</p>



<p>The <strong>lightness of the material</strong> also allows for easy handling, even on construction sites with limited or difficult access. A strategic advantage that is further enhanced by the option to <strong>customise components on-site</strong>, even during the assembly stages, guaranteeing flexibility and swift intervention.</p>

<p>We would like to inform you that the OMC Med Energy Conference &amp; Exhibition (May 23rd-25th, 2023) has been cancelled due to the heavy flooding affecting Ravenna and the surrounding areas.</p>

<p>The event has been cancelled to ensure the safety of the region and the population at such a critical time.</p>

<p><strong>OMC Med Energy Conference &amp; Exhibition</strong> will return in the autumn and will be held <strong>from 24 to 26 October 2023</strong> in Ravenna. The coming edition confirms the position of Ravenna at the centre of the Mediterranean energy agenda and will bring together again industry operators, stakeholders and national and international institutions to discuss and exchange ideas on decarbonization, transition and energy security strategies.</p>

<p>The whole Together for Tomorrow staff wishes Ravenna and the Emilia-Romagna region a speedy recovery.</p>

<p>The Together for Tomorrow network&#8217;s case studies also include the project on <strong>a natural gas extraction station off the Mediterranean coast of North Africa</strong>, which was developed in two phases.</p>

<p><strong>Phase 1</strong>: the client was looking for <strong>an alternative to traditional metal gratings</strong>, which need constant maintenance and had to be frequently replaced, due to their low resistance to the environmental aggression of sea water. Brackish environment causes rust formation and a consequent rapid deterioration of metal gratings, making walking surfaces extremely dangerous.</p>

<p>In order to meet such requirement, the company of the network <strong>M.M. supplied 450m² FRP gratings and FRP angle brackets</strong> (Fiberglass Reinforced Polymers). FRP products are ideal for applications in direct contact with brackish water because no salt deposit is left on the material (as evidenced by the test carried out by M.M. in collaboration with the University of Rome Tor Vergata). Thus, corrosion problems and maintenance costs have been removed, while enhancing safety. All walking surfaces were made with non-slip finishings.</p>

<p><strong>Phase 2</strong>: the client needed to <strong>replace the chlorination tank of the platform&#8217;s water treatment plant</strong>. The tank, made of metal, was heavily damaged, both by the chemicals contained and the brackish environment.</p>

<p>The intervention was conditioned by several critical issues, such as the choice of the type of resin suitable for the use of the tank, as well as the design of the internal gates and the walkable cover.</p>

<p>Furthermore, due to the overall dimensions in the installation area, it was necessary to produce the tank in two halves to be positioned one at a time and connected to each other in a following stage of the installation.</p>

<p>After the <strong>inspection by the technicians of Company Carbon Compositi</strong>, who verified all the needs and limits of the work in accordance with EN 13121.3 Standard <strong>the synergy between the technical crews of Carbon Compositi and M.M. made it possible to design a tank, subsequently built by Lamar Udine</strong>, capable of a full compliance with the needs of the client.</p>

<p>The work environment required the use of a self-extinguishing vinylester resin with the addition of special fillers, while the external liner was made with a pure vinylester resin gel coat provided with ultraviolet absorbent, in order to adequately resist to the exposure to UV rays.</p>

<p>The two parts of the tank were equipped with a flanged joint along the entire coupling length. During the installation phase, the joint was finished internally in order to ensure the hydraulic seal of the tank.</p>

<p>Once the tank was installed, several flanged nozzles were installed on its side walls in order to connect it to the system lines. All the <strong>installation activities</strong> were performed by <strong>Carbon Compositi</strong>, while <strong>M.M.</strong>, as <strong>Main Contractor</strong>,was in charge of the <strong>complete management of the project</strong>.</p>
